Client: Arts Institute of Oaxaca - Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in many cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico. The celebration takes place on November 1–2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saint's Day (November 1) and All Soul's Day (November 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.

The Systematic Crown of Cleopatra
Commissioned by The Royal Shakespeare Company.
An sculpture, intriguing, exiting, sophisticated and systematic which brings Shakespeare into the 21st century.
The project generates from the idea of finding a system to re-code Shakespeare. I based my idea focusing on ‘The Complete Works of William Shakespeare’. l also used colour and 3D printing as my research material and my approaches. Shakespeare’s works are dived into four categories: Comedy, Tragedy, History and Poetry.
The process I follow in order to create my system was also made in four stages. Fist, I counted the number of plays in each category: Comedy=17, Tragedy=10, History=10 and Poetry=5. After that I draw four lines using the number of each category to set up their length, i.e. comedy has 17 plays, thus the length of the line was 17units. Second, I used 4° for the first category adding the same sum to the next one (8°) and so on. The result was 4°, 8°, 12°, 16°. Third, I inverted each second line with its respected degree (line 8° and line 16°). Fourth, I arranged the lines altogether uniting them from their extremities to finally form the unit shape, which will define the final outcome.
The second stage of the process was to replicate the shape several times using the casting process to later arrange them and form ‘The Systematic Crown of Cleopatra’. For this project I was greatly inspired by the work of Antony and Cleopatra, which is part of one of the most famous Shakespeare’s tragedies in history all around the world.
After the last step explained, I proceeded to paint the pieces creating colours, which represent Cleopatra’s personality. The manner Shakespeare characterises Cleopatra is extraordinary; he gives her power and beauty, authority and death. In the final stage of my process I arranged all the pieces forming the systematic piece called at first ‘Cleopatra’s Crown’.
I also created a poster, which explains the followed stages during the process and emphasizes them.
Employing the same system we can came out with many different possibilities, at the end, all of them beautiful, intriguing and powerful ways of communication. Some people tend to think that the works of Shakespeare are old fashioned and only living in the past. This people think that is not worth it to continuing talking about them and using them as means of expression. But from the other side he has left us a great legacy, which is irreplaceable and unique. Thus, in the contrary I will say that we can use this treasure, expand it, love it, and renew it as well as getting inspired from and bring it into our generations.
Shakespeare is still alive in every culture and characterized in different ways. He is the creator of his characters and wherever they go, they will go together, they cannot live separate from one another. He creates them, feed them and gives them life. Shared Language
Shared Language is a dictionary which employs positive and negative meanings or synonyms and antonyms of designers jargon. The objective is to lead the user into an interaction with the words and dig into their multiple meanings trying to analyze not only the positive but negative implications. Moreover, the user will have the possibility to not only read the words but explore them and be able to apply them in many different contexts and situations from diverse points of views.
The book is divided into three categories, contextualisation, research and analysis and professionalisation. The reason is to lead the designer into context and common jargon in the profession in order to achieve hight standards and enrich their knowledge. 2012 Editorial Design, Graphic Design -
'Birdy' Book Cover
This is a book jacket design proposition for the new edition of 'Birdy' by William Wharton.
Birdy tells a story of a young boy with a consuming obsession with birds and flight, whose wartime experiences tragically blur his perception of fantasy and reality. We meet this boy Birdy, in a mental institution, crouched on the floor, completely motionless, unable even to feed himself.
Birdy's childhood friend Al, also wounded by the war, is enlisted to rouse Birdy from his trance. As Al reflects on their childhood together, whilst desperately searching flickers of recognition in Birdy's eyes, he reveals a stirring narrative for unlikely friendship and consuming fixation.
In 1984, Birdy was turned into a film by Alan Parker, wich went on to win the Grand Prize of the jury at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival. 2012 Graphic Design, Editorial Design, Photography -

London Diorama
For the creation of this project I have been greatly inspired by a legend of the Tower of London, which states the next, “If the Ravens leave the Tower, the Kingdom of England will fall”. I perceived how a magnificent royalty was relying all its hope and power on the Ravens. Another aspect that inspired me was the architecture. Thus, I focused on four of the main sights of London: Big Ben, London Eye, The Gherkin and Saint Paul’s Cathedral. The reason of creating a 3D Diorama was because I wanted to experiment a human touch, and find the most appropriate manner to represent the link between architecture, the legend and royalty. For the accomplishment of this project I mainly focused on keeping a balance and harmony between the shapes. This is also another approach to 3D dimensions.

The sun is new every day
This project presents a narrative employing a sequence of events allocated in a geometrical structure using images. These events tell a story of light and its changes truth the different stages in the structure; they metaphorically represent the phrase “The sun is new every day”. The images were created using two books, a bulb, a scanner and movement as main mediums of conversation between them. The two books were chosen is a random manner that makes the whole story of intriguing. The key experiment in this project was to use the anatomy of the books to create an unexpected experience.
